Commissioner O’Malley Announces a New Way of Doing Things at the SSA
Social security representatives, including social security disability attorneys, may handle several hundred claims at one time. At the Disability Law Firm, we are committed to our clients and call on each case, every month, to check the status. Unfortunately, since the pandemic, staffing levels at the Social Security Administration (SSA) are only at about 60% of pre-pandemic levels. As a result, SSA restricted us to only being able to check on the status of one claim per phone call with SSA. This resulted in precious time was used waiting on hold, up to an hour, just to check the status for one case. At The Disability Law Firm, we are dedicated to staying on top of your claim. Consequently, we have patiently waited on hold to make sure you are in-the-know when it comes to your social security disability claim. Thankfully, in March of 2024, Commissioner O’Malley announced that representatives are now able to check multiple claim statuses with only one phone call. This will allow us to be much more efficient in getting the information regarding your case and keeping you updated. While the wait time to get a decision on a claim continues to be extremely long, we are encouraged that Commissioner O’Malley is taking steps to address problems and obstacles that impact our clients.
